Instead of giving a list of what you shouldn’t do, I prefer suggesting you add nurturing, nourishing, and fulfilling, activities, food, relationships, practices, and environments to your life. When you do this enough you will find that unfulfilling behaviors and experiences begin to go away.

I advocate everyone to creating a personal Deep Roots Medicinal Plan for mind body spirit health and wellness. It’s is an approach I have began to discover after reflecting on the practice council circle, which I can describe as healing through story telling (from the heart) and active listening (with the heart). I have an artistic and creative side, and also a logical and practical side as well, so I really feel at home with spiritual practice and mindfulness everyday, mundane life. You might find there is vast knowledge in the seemingly mundane when you are still! What is this plan then? Well you get to create it and you have my support. Healing is process of co-creativite actions.

bust womanStarting with a Foundation

When sculpting a thick/heavy piece we use an armature to support the clay so that the work does not fall over or in on itself. An armature is often some simple piece(s) of nailed wood fastened to a base that you build the clay around. The armature holds the piece together similar to how trees stay up right with roots. Creativity isn’t about making something that never existed, but to make a unique expression of what already is. Healing works the same, and you don’t have to have the skills of a painter or sculpture to be the artist driving your creative expressions of healing! Just as an artist may struggle with a painting, we struggle with our health, inner peace, and relationships. Why do you think artists subjects are so often people and nature? We are the art. The foundations listed below are your paint, clay, paper, notes, or any medium you choose.

Sing in the key of Forgiveness of yourself and others
Forgiveness allows you to release attachment to negative and painful energies and thoughts.

Paint with the colors of Gratitude
Having gratitude shows respect for what provides for you, it opens and clears internal and external channels for healing and blessings in your life, and to open you to receiving and giving more.

Mold with nature in some way
Growing plants, offering water to plants, composting, going to nature on a regular basis as a meditation or conscious connective practice gets you in-tune with your body and path in life. Eating wild foods and whole foods consciously resets your body subtly and physically.

Dance with your inner guidance
Your higher self, your ancestors, plant medicine, etc. increase your awareness of your intuition to improve your decisions and the choices you make.

Scribe everywhere Unconditional love for yourself and others
Unconditional love allows us to break limitations, pushing boundaries of what we think is impossible, clear energetic blocks, and is a general healing tonic that is healing for yourself and those around you.

Suggested Activities
With these concepts as a foundation, the suggestions below are based on my personal experience, formal education, spiritual teachers and groups, working with kitchen herbal remedies, practicing energy healing & massage, and observations in life with work, clients, friends & family, plants, and animals.

  • Learn to cook, properly prepare, something your grandmother cooked, or that is part of your ancestry or native foods you feel a connection to. It should be from scratch, clean of chemicals and genetic modification when possible, made with conscious intention with love. Start with a simple stew or bread, something nourishing. Share with others and avoid cooking when angry or disturbed.
  • When practicing breathing exercises/meditations, have a plant in front of you if indoors, or do it under a tree or near a bush especially those of medicinal plants and trees. The plant uses your CO2, to convert back into Oxygen for you to breath, connect here!
  • Always give thanks or show gratitude for anything positive in your life you have, had, intend to have before taking herbs, food, prescription drugs prescribed by a doctor. Also before receiving or giving any treatment.
  • Offer others you visit with, healthy food, plants, objects or words with meaning appropriate to their values, culture, and beliefs. If you are unsure ask.
  • Increase the amount of physical contact you have with those you are close to and trust. Hug, hold hands, caress your sister’s hair while watching a movie, scratch someones back for them, learn simple therapeutic massage techniques especially for elderly or sick in your life. Encourage those you trust to offer the same to you if they are willing to do it freely and happily. Only do it freely, if you are uncomfortable doing anything, stop and listen to tune into why that might be.
  • Learn a language that is connected to your ancestral cultures and/or those that are more connected to the earth. These languages will have elements that mimic nature sounds and concepts that reference nature and Spirit. It does not have to be a whole language, but a mantra, short prayer, the word “thank you” or a song. Even a children’s lullaby.
  • Be mindful in the practice non-violence or ahimsa in not causing harm to yourself or others. This takes active practice and is in no way as passive as we have been made to believe. Find where you could be more peaceful in your words, actions, and energy you give to people and start there.
